The Mass Media Reportage of Crimes and Terrorists Activities: The Nigerian Experience.Chika Euphemia Asogwa, John I. Iyere & Chris O. Attah - 2012 - Asian Culture and History 4 (2):p175.
The new mass media technologies now make information processing and distribution more accessible to people globally. Marshall Mcluhan’s “global village” has given birth to a “global palour”. However, perpetrators of crimes now bask on the philosophy of communication media practitioners that people have the right to know what is happening within and outside their environment. This stance is rapidly dismantling, in an amazing fashion, the hitherto accorded respect for media ethics. Neil Postman, a New York media analyst, describes the creator (...)

"[The authors] artfully piece together important essays in educational policy and philosophy. . . . The book deals in detail with such issues as teacher professionalization, moral responsibility of public schools, accountability, and ethical codes of practice. Framing effects within the ethical decision making process of consumers.Connie Rae Bateman, John Paul Fraedrich & Rajesh Iyer - 2002 - Journal of Business Ethics 36 (1-2):119 - 140.
There has been neglect of systematic conceptual development and empirical investigation within consumer ethics. Scenarios have been a long-standing tool yet their development has been haphazard with little theory guiding their development. This research answers four questions relative to this gap: Do different scenario decision frames encourage different moral reasoning styles? Does the way in which framing effects are measured make a difference in the measurement of the relationship between moral reasoning and judgment by gender? Are true framing effects likely (...)

  15. Are there more than minimal a priori limits on irrationality?John I. Biro & Kirk A. Ludwig - 1994 - Australasian Journal of Philosophy 72 (1):89-102.
Our concern in this paper is with the question of how irrational an intentional agent can be, and, in particular, with an argument Stephen Stich has given for the claim that there are only very minimal a priori requirements on the rationality of intentional agents. The argument appears in chapter 2 of The Fragmentation of Reason.1 Stich is concerned there with the prospects for the ‘reform-minded epistemologist’. If there are a priori limits on how irrational we can be, there are (...)

Knowledge and Faith in Thomas Aquinas.John I. Jenkins - 1997 - New York, NY, USA: Cambridge University Press.
This book offers a revisionary account of key epistemological concepts and doctrines of St Thomas Aquinas, particularly his concept of scientia, and proposes an interpretation of the purpose and composition of Aquinas's most mature and influential work, the Summa theologiae, which presents the scientia of sacred doctrine, i.e. Christian theology. Contrary to the standard interpretation of it as a work for neophytes in theology, Jenkins argues that it is in fact a pedagogical work intended as the culmination of philosophical and (...)

Not biting the hand that feeds them: Hegemonic expediency in the newsroom and the Karen ryan/health and human services department video news release.I. I. I. John - 2008 - Journal of Mass Media Ethics 23 (2):110 – 125.
This study examines the use of a video news release in a specific story. Press coverage and editorial criticism in the case showed that journalists do not articulate sufficiently how the news owners' sway, through institutional controls, can lead to a hegemony of expedient action in the newsroom. Critical self-reflection by news workers will better enable journalists to ethically deliberate news choices that balance their responsibilities to owners, peers, and the public.

    Romances with schools: a life of education.John I. Goodlad - 2016 - Lanham: Rowman & Littlefield.
In Romances with Schools, John Goodlad steps out from behind the public persona of distinguished scholar and advocate for public schooling to offer a moving personal account of a life devoted to educating the young. He deftly interweaves fascinating personal details with reflections on many of the larger issues in education that he has explored throughout his career.

Educating for place responsiveness: An australian perspective on ethical practice.John I. Cameron - 2003 - Ethics, Place and Environment 6 (2):99 – 115.
A useful linkage can be made between recent literature on the philosophy and ethics of place and Australian work on education for place responsiveness. Place education, which holds a creative tension between deep experience and critical awareness, has a central role to play in any practical expression of an ethic of place. The way forward is suggested by Stefanovic's mediated iterative process for group work and the suspension of outcome orientation and judgement to allow the experience to speak for itself (...)

Synthetic Genomics and the Construction of a Synthetic Bacterial Cell.John I. Glass - 2012 - Perspectives in Biology and Medicine 55 (4):473-489.
The topic of synthetic life has long been a subject for science fiction writers, philosophers, and even scientists. With the announcement in 2010 by renowned biologist J. Craig Venter that he and a team of scientists from the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) had created a bacterial cell with chemically synthesized genome, discussions of synthetic life were no longer just conjecture.Humans had assembled nonliving components to make a living cell (Gibson et al. 2010). I was one of the leaders of (...)

Constructing the social.Theodore R. Sarbin & John I. Kitsuse (eds.) - 1994 - Thousand Oaks, Calif.: Sage Publications.
If you are looking for a clear, concrete overview on social constructionist research and analysis, look no further than Constructing the Social. This timely volume pools the talents of many leading psychologists and sociologists, who in each case ground theory into practical examples. Contributors demonstrate that human beings are principally social agents rather than passive reactors that process information. Each contributor analyzes the historical and cultural contexts implicit in a wide range of key issues including anxiety, the family, intelligence, aging, (...)
